Hayton Parish Church

If you have been visiting the graveyard, using the community field or just walking on the public footpath past the vicarage in recent years you will have seen changes taking place.

With the graveyard approaching capacity the PCC negotiated with the Diocese to formally acquire the land already fenced off and reserved for the graveyard extension.

Once that was completed formal planning permission had to be obtained for the change of use and permission had also to be obtained from the Diocese for the same change. It was decided that with the pathway through the graveyard being uneven and slippery we should use the gate near the original boundary hedge as the main entrance and provide a path along the line of the original boundary giving improved walking conditions especially for future funeralm parties.

The work is now complete and thanks are due to

Harry Cain for removing the original hedge.

Mike Beattie and others for tidying the tress / hedges adjoining thecommunity field

Others for tidying the cuttings and earth

Finally and most importantly to Eddie Wannop Ltd who dug out the line of the path, provided and fitted edge boards and weed barrier and then provided , spread and rolled the gravel  on the path - all wothout any charge o the Church.
